BURLS
This series was modeled after burls cut from four water oak trees uprooted in our backyard by Hurricane Matthew in Savannah, Georgia in 2016. Disruptions in growth patterns like this draw my attention to the life cycle of a tree and the ecosystem.
Burls are commonly found as rounded outgrowths on trees usually caused by insects and filled with small knots from dormant buds resulting in crazy grain patterns.
